What we are looking for:
Green Ferns Publishing House is an author-led press based in the Carolinas, specializing in Southern fiction and coastal mysteries. We welcome submissions from emerging and established voices who celebrate place, character, and emotional depth.
We are looking for unique stories that immerse readers through twisty plots, unforgettable characters, and rich worlds. We represent the following genres: mystery, thriller, fantasy, fantasy romance, and Southern literature. Here at Green Ferns, we only represent series, desiring to champion our writers from their first to last book.
Currently, we are looking for submissions with richly depicted Southern settings and strong narrative voices, particularly in the mystery and/or thriller genres and southern literature.
Submission Guidelines:
Please read carefully before submitting:
Manuscript length:
- Novels: 60,000–100,000 words
- Must be first in series and unpublished
What to Include:
- A brief query letter introducing yourself and your work–please include a short bio, comps that reflect your book’s genre and vibe, and the basics of a storyline that will connect the series throughout.
- A 1–2 page synopsis of book 1 (spoilers included—we need to know the ending!)
- Up to the first 10 pages of the manuscript or the full first chapter as a Word document (.doc or .docx)
- Format: Use 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins
Submissions here:
Please submit to GreenFernsPress@gmail.com with the subject line as follows: QUERY [title] [author]
Response Time: We aim to respond within 8–12 weeks. If you haven’t heard from us after that, feel free to follow up.
If we request your manuscript:
Format:
- Use 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins
- Include a title page with your name, contact info, social media profiles, newsletter size (if you have one), and word count
What we do not represent:
We do not represent standalone books, children’s or middle grade categories, poetry, screenplays, or nonfiction. We do not accept manuscripts written by generative AI or that have been previously published. No extreme horror or erotica please–closed-door, fade-to-black, or “sweet” romance is preferred.
