What sets Green Ferns apart from traditional publishers?

We blend the professionalism of traditional publishing with a personal and innovative touch of indie spirit. We are a small press capable of big things, but foremost, we foster a personalized experience.

Can I submit my manuscript directly? Do I need an agent?

No, you do not need an agent, although if you have one, we can directly negotiate with them. Solicited and unsolicited queries are welcomed. We are looking for the best stories for our readers.

Rather than a full manuscript, we ask that you submit a query letter, synopsis, and sample pages first. Please see our submissions page. If we like what we see, we’ll ask for more.

What does Green Ferns offer authors?

We provide a traditional model of editing, design, marketing, and distribution support to take authors from a manuscript to seeing their book in readers’ hands. Books will be distributed online and in bookstores.

Green Ferns only gives advances in special situations. We operate off traditional publishing house models, the author retaining the traditional 10%-30% royalty rate, dependent upon book format. Other rights are negotiated during contract agreements and may vary.

Can I republish elsewhere?

We ask for your exclusivity on the work we are representing with a first right of refusal on books involved within that series since we only take on series projects and want to invest in authors’ visions from start to finish. 

Do you offer self-publishing options?

At this time, we do not offer a hybrid model for boutique services. We do hope to open up this option in the future to serve all authors’ needs.
